01. PepsiCo

As one of the largest beverage brands in the world, Pepsi is a household name just about anywhere you go. The company is also involved in the food industry with subsidiaries Frito-Lay and Quaker Foods in the United States, as well as Sabritas and Gamesa in Mexico.
PepsiCo recently announced the development of a 100 percent recyclable bottle made from bio-based raw materials. Right now the new bottles are being derived from switch grass, pine bark, corn husks, and other sources.
Additionally, the company just unveiled a prototype of what they're calling a "social vending system." The machine would allow users to buy a drink for a friend, based on the recipient's mobile telephone number. Those buying drinks for others would also have the option of leaving a video message, which the machine would play for the recipient.

02. The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group

The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG) manufactures, markets and distributes over 50 brands of carbonated drinks, juices and other beverages to the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. In addition to their popular sodas, the company also produces Mr. & Mrs. T's Mixers, Rose's Lime Juice, and Yoo-hoo.
The company was established in its present form in 2008, when it was spun off from Cadbury Schweppes American Beverages. As of last year, the company had 19,000 employees and $6 billion in annual revenues. With 24 manufacturing centers and more than 200 distribution facilities, DSPG has a host of locations, which could be in need of new hires.
In March, the company recently signed a multi-year agreement with fast-food chain Popeye's to add Dr. Pepper and Hawaiian Punch to the fountains at more than 700 Popeye's locations.

03. Hertz

Hertz operates around 8,100 locations located in 147 countries around the world. To get an idea of the volume of business the company does, the Hertz reservation centers handle around 40 million phone calls and make roughly 30 million reservations each year.
Currently the top car rental brand at airports in the United States, the company also has a significant presence at major airports across Europe. Hertz also has both corporate and licensee locations in Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand as well as licensee locations in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
The company has announced plans to expand their worldwide franchise network. With 25 percent of the current global market, in terms of airport-based car rentals, Hertz is looking to grow this number over the next few years, while also increasing their off-airport presence worldwide.

04. TruGreen

TruGreen provides a variety of lawn-care-related services including fertilization, targeted insect control, and tree care. The company was purchased in 1990 by ServiceMaster, which is one of the nation's largest commercial and residential service networks. ServiceMaster is the company behind brands such as Terminix, American Home Shield, and Merry Maids.
All lawn specialists at TruGreen are full-time employees who must complete a training program before they are certified to work in the field. In its lawn care services, the company uses its TruNatural fertilizer, a completely natural and organic "lawn feeding program," derived from both plant and animal sources.
The company recently put into service a new fleet of 10 TruGreen hybrid vehicles, in California. This move allows ServiceMaster to participate in the state's Hybrid Vehicle Incentive Program, which provides funds for companies operating such fleets throughout the state.

05. TriQuint Semiconductor

Semiconductors are substances that conduct an electrical charge more efficiently than an insulator (i.e. rubber, plastic and glass) but less efficiently than most metals. This unique rate of conductivity gives these materials a distinct advantage in many radio frequency applications.
TriQunit's business has two main components; the first is its foundry division, which produces semiconductors on the material level. The second is its microprocessor division that creates silicon chips made from these semiconductors.
The company's wireless chips are used in a variety of military and commercial applications. As far as commercial products are concerned, the company's chips are used in many modern cell phones, including several versions of the iPhone, as well as in the iPad.
The company recently hosted an event known as High Tech University for 35 Portland area high school students interested in pursing careers in the fields of math, science, and technology.

06. Comcast

Comcast is one of the nation's leading providers of cable TV, Internet, and phone services. The company owns a majority stake in NBCUniversal, which operates the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks. The Comcast Corporation is the parent company of Comcast-Spectator, which owns both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Flyers.
The company recently announced the release of their Xfinity Signature Support service, which will provide 24x7 technical support to a wide range of products their customers use to connect to their services.
The company's broadband business has been growing. Comcast signed up 418,000 broadband subscribers in the first quarter of 2011, outpacing competitors Time Warner, Verizon and AT&T. This increase in subscriber-base was a major factor contributing to the company's first quarter profits, which are up 32 percent from last year.

07. Walmart

With over 2 million employees worldwide, Walmart Inc. is the largest private employer in the United States. The company has steadily grown since founder Sam Walton opened the first Walmart-branded store in 1962.
Starting as a discount retail operation, the company has grown to include a line of supercenters and a significant grocery operation. The company is now so prevalent that over 170 million customers visit Walmart stores around the world each week. In addition to its Walmart-branded activities, the company owns and operates the Sam's Club wholesale centers.
Starting this year, the company plans to open 400 to 500 of its new Walmart Express grocery stores across the nation. The plan should allow the company to expand into neighborhoods that are not quite big enough for a regular-sized Walmart.

08. IBM

Affectionately known as "Big Blue" by some, the computer hardware and software giant has been in business since 1911. Historically a leader in the field of technology research, the company holds more patents than any other U.S.-based company.
In addition to its server and software products, the company produces chipsets used in most modern video game systems, including the Xbox, Wii, and Playstation 3. The new Wii 2, set to be unveiled at next month's E3 Video Game Expo, will also be powered by an IBM chipset.
In March, the company's supercomputer, Watson, went head-to-head against two teams of college students, one from Carnegie Mellon University and the other from the University of Pittsburg. The event was hosted at CMU and ended with Watson earning $52,199, Pitt making $12,937, and CMU brining home $7,463.

09. Ernst & Young

Headquartered in London, England, Ernst & Young is one of the so-called Big Four accounting firms. The company's activities consist mainly of doing financial audit work for other corporations.
Additionally, the company is actively involved in areas such as actuarial consulting, as well as due diligence research for mergers and acquisitions.
Most of the major U.S. accounting firms have been in a hiring frenzy as of late. Ernst and Young is no exception: The company recently announced that it is looking to hire 7,000 from college campuses (2,500 of which will be interns) and an additional 6,000 experienced workers.
The company is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Entrepreneur of the Year program. Regional winners for 2011 will be crowned next month, with the national title to be awarded in November.

10. Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC)

The CRMC campus is located on 58 acres in downtown Fresno, California. The medical center has more than 600 beds and includes a 56,000-square-foot emergency care center, which is one of the largest in the state. This emergency facility houses the only comprehensive burn and Level 1 trauma center in the region.
In the last four years, CRMC has added a 52-bed Neuroscience Center dedicated to the treatment of brain and spine related conditions, as well as a 50-bed cardiovascular unit, and a 65-bed Level III neonatal ICU.
CRMC also hosts one of the University of California, San Francisco's (UCSF) medical residency programs. The program features a new $27 million Center for Medical Education and Research and provides training for about 300 residents each year.
In 2007, UCSF Fresno was the only program in the nation to receive accreditation for their pulmonary medicine fellowship. The program will bring three new fellows to the center each year. These fellows will have a chance to gain clinical experience working in a region of the country with one of the highest asthma rates, nationwide.
